NextSense began as a project within Alphabet’s X division, originally focused on enhancing sleep quality through brainwave-responsive audio stimulation. Early experiments revealed a larger opportunity: enabling continuous, real-world brain monitoring using discreet ear-worn devices. By advancing ear-EEG technology — capturing neural signals without the need for scalp electrodes — we laid the groundwork for wearable systems capable of supporting epilepsy care, sleep science, cognitive health research, and beyond. Today, we continue that mission, expanding brain health access outside traditional clinical environments
